Well Being
Magnesium and Mag-Restor in particular, is proving to be a valuable general maintenance supplement. We have seen improvement in horses general condition coat etc, as well improvement in specific problems.
Some of the problems that are being helped by using Mag-Restor.
Mud fever. The horses maintained on Mag-Restor last summer who usually get mud fever in the winter, in almost all cases there was no reoccurrence and in others just a mild attack. By raising the feeding amounts of Mag-Restor the mild attacks improved. We believe this is due to the action of the magnesium on the immune system.
Gut ulcers. Horses known to suffer from gut ulcers have improved in condition and gained weight. We believe this is due to the alkali affect of the magnesium.
Skin conditions. There has been improvement in a number of skin conditions, some known some unknown. There again boosting the immune system and generally normalizing the digestive system.
MAG-RESTOR
Approximate feeding guide, for general maintenance.
If the horse has never had a magnesium supplement, give 2 level scoops per day for 7 days and then reduce to 1 level scoop per day. Introduce gradually into a dampened feed, maybe ½ a scoop or less to start with. Also the powder may be diluted in water at a rate of 25ml water to 18 grams of powder, then administer orally with a syringe. 28 grams = 1 oz Warning. This product is not a cure or treatment for any mentioned ailments, but a dietary aid. Always dampen feed and do not allow the powder to enter the airways and drinking water is always available.
Arab, Grey, 10 years, 14.3hh. Weight approximately 400 Kg ( MUD FEVER) 11/3/2007 It had been noted that horses maintained on Mag-Restor over the past summer that had been prone to mud fever, did not suffer from this problem over this past wet winter. This particular pony is susceptible to Sweet Itch and general itching in summer and Mud Fever in winter. When starting to feed Mag-Restor one hind leg was particularly effected with mud fever, the leg was inflamed, sore and had many scabs. Fed Mag-Restor at a rate of 72 grams per day for 5 days, also fed MSM at a rate of 20 grams per day for 5 days. As the pony was not keen on large amounts of Mag-Restor in his feed, some was administered, diluted via syringe and some placed into a dampened feed. After 5 days the leg was bathed with warm water and many of the scabs removed. The leg was then bandaged with gamgee for 2 hours to dry. The bandage was removed and the redness and soreness in the leg had disappeared and was now a good healthy skin colour with some returning hair growth. The pony has now been reduced to 2 level scoops of Mag-Restor (36grams per day plus 10 grams of MSM. The leg is showing continual improvement and hair growth and no signs of reoccurrence of the mud fever. This pony will continue on the above feeding amounts to determine if there is going to be any problems with Sweet Itch in the coming summer months and to see, that if by feeding Mag-Restor prior to the Sweet Itch season it has any affect on the problem. Also noted was the improvement in well being of the pony, coat and lung condition after being fed such a large amount of Mag-Restor. Up date. There has been no significant improvement with the sweet itch.
